New Slow and Intermediate Sessions!

Learning to play an instrument and don’t feel confident about leaping into Sessions?  Well the only way to learn is by doing (observing helps, but only up to a point).  A pair of Sessions have just started up at the New York Irish Center in Queens– just one stop away from Grand Central on the 7.

That’s at 1040 Jackson Ave, Long Island City

The slow one for beginners is on Saturday at 11.  The intermediate Craobh Ull Mor session will be at 4 on Sunday.  On Saturday, May 14, the slow session will be led by James Cleveland, who also teaches fiddle at the Irish Arts Center.  Caitlin Warbelow led the first two weeks of the beginner session, so it looks like one of those that will have floating leaders.  Organizer Riyaz Shaikh writes:

We had a good turnout last saturday, with a mix of fiddles, banjos, flutes and bodhrans. Started at a slow beginner pace and finished slightly faster. So, whether you’ve just started playing, or have been playing for a while, you’re welcome to join in!

Email Riyaz for more details– he’s also interested in getting some people together to play tunes in the park and there’s talk of a tunelist from the Sessions being mailed around.
