[NCAAF] Texas State vs UL Monroe 2020 Live Free

A pair of teams from the Sun Belt in search of their first win of the 2020 season take the field down in the bayou. The Texas State Bobcats are on the road as they make the trip to face the UL Monroe Warhawks Saturday night. Texas State was beaten 51-48 in double overtime by UTSA at home in their previous contest last Saturday. UL Monroe was clobbered 37-7 on the road by Army in their season opener last Saturday. The Warhawks own a 5-2 lead in the all-time series between the schools and have won the last four meetings. That includes a 24-14 road victory in the most recent meeting on October 10, 2019.

Texas State Bobcats Looking to Get in the Win Column
Texas State let one slip away against UTSA in their last game as the contest went to double overtime before they succumbed to defeat. The Bobcats hope that they can bounce back and get in the win column for the first time in 2020 as they take the field in conference play. Texas State trailed 24-7 in the first half and was down 41-28 with under two minutes to go before scoring twice in 35 seconds, tying the game on a 91-yard punt return by Jeremiah Haydel with 1:16 to play. The Bobcats were outgained 499-474, held a 26-24 edge in first downs, and lost the time of possession battle 31:32 to 28:28 in the contest. Texas State also turned the ball over twice while failing to generate a takeaway.

The Bobcats enter this contest 16th in the FBS in passing offense as they average 288 yards per game through the air. Texas State stands 23rd in the nation in rushing offense as they average 157 yards per game this season on the ground. The Bobcats are 13th in the country in scoring offense by putting up 36 points per game. Texas State is 39th in the country in scoring defense as they allow an average of 41 points per game. Tyler Vitt has hit 26 of 39 passes for 346 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions on the year. Brady McBride is 21 of 39 for 227 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while Jeremiah Haydel is one of one for three yards. Brock Sturges leads the team on the ground with 30 carries for 164 yards and two scores while Calvin Hill contributes 23 carries for 158 yards and a score. Haydel leads the team with nine receptions for 63 yards on the season. Jah’Marae Sheread (eight catches, team-high 99 yards, TD), Chandler Speights (six grabs, 78 yards, TD) and Trevis Graham Jr. (five receptions, 68 yards) are next in line in the passing game. Alan Orona is nine of 10 on extra point tries but just one of three on field goal attempts with a long of 47.

UL Monroe Warhawks Try to Even Record at Home
UL Monroe was blasted on the road in their season opener by Army up at West Point. The Warhawks hope that a return home can help them get back in the win column and even their season record. UL Monroe never led in the game and was never closer than seven after Army got on the board. The Warhawks were blanked in the second half as the Black Knights pulled away for the victory. UL Monroe was outgained by a hefty 465-200 margin, gave up 24 first downs while picking up nine and was dominated in time of possession by a 36:47 to 23:13 margin. In addition, the Warhawks turned the ball over twice while forcing only one takeaway.

The Warhawks are 30th in the FBS in passing offense as they average 163 yards per game through the air on the season. UL Monroe stands tied for 41st in rushing offense as they put up only 37 yards a game on the ground. The Warhawks are 39th in scoring offense with seven points a game. UL Monroe is just 36th in scoring defense as they give up an average of 37 points per contest. Colby Suits has hit 14 of 19 passes for 148 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions on the year. Jeremy Hunt is two of five for 15 yards and an interception while running twice for six yards. Josh Johnson is the team’s leading rusher with 12 carries for 38 yards on the year. Josh Pederson leads the team with five receptions for 56 yards on the year. Chandler Whitfield (three catches, eight yards) is the only other player with more than two catches on the team. Davis Hughes hit his lone extra point attempt and misfired on his only field goal attempt, which came from 37 yards. That kick was blocked.
