CRAIC GAY & LESBAN FILM FESTIVAL

The 1st annual Craic Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (CGLFF) is scheduled for Friday, June 24th at the IrishArts Center (553 W. 51st) during PRIDE week in Manhattan.

Being gay in Ireland has historically been difficult but all evidence shows that gay artists are thriving now.  In Silver Stars, the Brokentalkers Theatre Company presented stories of gay men coming out.  I wrote about it for the New York Times.   Lest you think the battle is over, note this comment (and this was just two years ago:

Other vignettes center on Irish-Americans including Robert Rygor of the protest group Act Up, and Brendan Fay, who started the St. Pat’s for All Parade in Queens as a counterpoint to celebrations that bar gays from marching.
That’s still true of many celebrations here.  So I’d be very curious to see what these contemporary filmmakers have to say!

Another Reason To Go:  there’s a reception before.  There’s a reception after.  Very Important People introduce.  Free drink!
