How It’s New York: Free lunchtime events with amazing people are one of the nicer things about living here. In other places you have to drive hundreds of miles for events like this; in NY you can stay put and let others come to you!
How It’s Irish: Moya, who is one of the original members of Clannad, has been called the “first lady of Irish Music,” and Cormac is one of the great, great harpers. I did an interview with Moya which I’ll air when she’s back for a concert. the new album, Voices and Harps, is great!

I really love this album. It’s quite traditional and spare in some ways and also quite jazzy and contemporary. It’s beautifully produced as well. Moya’s voice is ethereal and light and the combination of harps is gorgeous (she’s a harper herself).

Moya Brennan, the First Lady of Celtic Music, and virtuoso harpist Cormac de Barra both come from large musical families in Ireland and their mutual admiration for each other naturally developed into a stimulating musical relationship.
Their new album “Voices & Harps” is the culmination of their friendship and creative synergy over the past decade. They combine the simplicity, depth, and beauty of the extraordinary skills which make them unique in their own field. “Voices & Harps” unveils a new chapter in their partnership.
Grammy (R) winner Brennan is the singer of Clannad as well as having a successful career. She has sung on most of the world’s great stages and has collaborated with many notable artists including Bono, The Chieftains, Bruce Hornsby, and Robert Plant. Among her movie credits is her collaboration with Hans Zimmer on King Arthur. She is also part of the female traditional group “T with the Maggies.”
Cormac De Barra is renowned internationally as a versatile harp virtuoso. He continually pushes the boundaries of the Irish Harp through his work.
