How it’s Irish: Irish Band Lúnasa performing with Dublin singer and Bouzouki player Daoiri Farrell
The great season of Irish music is upon us, and once again, the incredible Irish band Lúnasa are opening up their US tour with some great shows. This time they are bringing along Dublin singer and bouzouki player Daoiri Farrell for a few of the dates. And they are re-joined by their renowned original fiddler player Sean Smyth, a true treat for sure!
For those of you who haven’t encountered Daoiri before, he is a seasoned singer and instrumentalist, with 3 albums already, and another one in the works. He has played all over Ireland, Europe and Australia and has appeared at Milwaukee Irish Festival, Vancouver Island Folk Festival in North America.
I had the chance to chat with Daoiri about his upcoming tour dates with Lúnasa and he is very excited about making yet another sojourn onto American soil. After nearly 2 years of playing gigs from his living room at home, he’s thrilled to be back in front of live audiences. He’s had the opportunity to perform with Lúnasa before and is currently working with their bass player Trevor Hutchinson on his upcoming CD which will hopefully be released in summer 2022.
While having competed in traditional singing contests in the past, and having won the All Ireland singing title in 2013, he is now more focused on the music and introducing his unique syncopations and bouzouki stylings to bring new life into many of the traditional standards. Much like Lúnasa, he is an innovator and is constantly sharing his songs, whether on the concert stage, in a local pub setting, or at a communal singing session such as An Goílin in Dublin.
