How It’s New York: This is one of the programs at the Irish Arts Center, one of NYC’s hubs for all things Irish.
How It’s Irish: Any country’s language is part of its intrinsic culture, but it’s been a particular point of contention for the Irish: suppressed by the English, a marker of national pride and a base note of poetry that sets the music of how the Irish speak English. Irish Arts Center offers classes all year, too!
The day includes opportunities to speak Irish, as well as workshops in literature and song, films in Irish and more!
Féile na Gaeilge / Irish Language Day 2012
Saturday, May 19 | 12pm – 5pm
No matter your current level, whether absolute beginners looking for a first experience of the language to fluent speakers, come celebrate the Irish language with the Irish Arts Center!
Immerse yourself with absolute beginner, intermediate and advanced classes for adults. Meet other fellow language enthusiasts. Enjoy film screenings, conversation, Irish poetry read with translation and more.
New this year! A choice of workshops in literature, translation and song to deepen your understanding of and connection to the language in a fun and social way!
Please register in advance and plan to arrive by 11:45 am for check in.
Tea, coffee and snacks will be available throughout the day.
