Tour de France 2020 Live Stream: The upset echoes that of the last day of the 1989 Tour de France when American Greg LeMond won the race by eight seconds over France’s Laurent Fignon after starting the time-trial 50 seconds off the pace. There was another major change on Saturday as Australian Richie Porte leapfrogged Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez into third place overall by finishing the 20th stage in third spot.

The duel between the two Slovenians is likely to go down as one of 2020’s great sporting moments. Pogacar, 21, who won the 36.2km stage between Lure and La Planche des Belles Filles in 55 minutes and 55 seconds, will lead the peloton into Paris on Sunday wearing the overall leader’s yellow jersey. Barring disaster, he will climb onto the top step of the podium after the traditional finish along the Champs Elysées. He will also boast the polka dot jersey as best climber on the Tour and the white one as best under-25s rider.

“My dream was just to take part,” said Pogacar of his first Tour. The 21-year-old won the 36.2-km solo effort against the clock as Roglic, who had started the day with a 57-second lead in the general classification, cracked in the uphill section, a 5.9-km climb at an average gradient of 8.5%.

“I don’t know what to say, it’s a dream,” said Pogacar, who now leads second-placed Roglic by 59 seconds ahead of Sunday’s final stage, a largely processional ride to the Champs Élysees in Paris where only the final sprint is contested.

“Getting the yellow jersey on the final day, we were dreaming of it since the start. I knew every corner on the road, thanks to the work of my team. Pogacar, who is set to become the youngest winner of the Tour since Henri Cornet in 1904, clocked 55 minutes 55 seconds – the perfection of the numbers matching his performance.Roglic only took fifth place, 1:56 off the pace after what appeared to be a cautious start turned into a major meltdown.

The 30-year-old, who had controlled the whole race with his dominant Jumbo-Visma team, imploded on the climb and crossed the line with a livid face before sitting down on the road. A raw talent who holds no fear, Pogacar, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Monday, now holds three distinctive jerseys – the yellow, the white jersey for the best Under-25 rider and the polka dot jersey for the mountains classification.

After losing all hope of overall victory following a crash in the opening stage, Frenchman Thibaut Pinot rode through impressive crowds and smoke in his hometown of Melisey, where the roads had his name and that of his goat Kim painted all over them, adding to the sense of surrealism on the day.But then the climb to La Planche des Belles Filles is like that—it always produces surprises! In fact, every time the Tour has come here since its first visit in 2012, the yellow jersey had changed hands.

The Planche — which is in the back yard of popular French rider Thibaut Pinot —i s just another one of the Tour’s new climbs, that it quickly creating its own legend. Working La Planche, des Belles Filles, however, is always complicated, as it is essentially a dead-end road in the remote part of Eastern France. Fans walk for miles to find a proper vantage spot and media hoping to be at the finish, must arrive early and get in place. Movement is limited. But so often, it is all worth while, as this steep climb always provides high drama.

And the drama reached new heights today, providing an outstanding ending for one of the most unprecedented Tours ever. ARTICLE In an incredible climax to the Tour de France, Tadej Pogačar crushed fellow Slovenian Primož Roglič in the last stage on Saturday before the finish in Paris, all but guaranteeing that he’ll win the title at cycling’s greatest race.

Set to become the youngest champion since 1904, Pogačar – at a day shy of 22 – flew on the penultimate stage, an uphill time trial, devouring the 57-second lead that had made Roglič look impregnable before the showdown.

In the end, it wasn’t even close. Pogačar was sensational, not only ripping the iconic race leader’s yellow jersey from Roglič, but winning the time trial, too. Roglič managed no better than fifth, a whopping 1 minute, 56 seconds slower than his countryman.
