Renowned Irish author Colm Tóibín will be guest speaker at the US launch of “The Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland” (EMIR) and the distinguished editors, Harry White and Barra Boydell, will present their groundbreaking work in an evening celebrating the cornerstone of Irish culture – music.
The event will include performances by Christy McNamara on the button accordion and songs by Mezzo Soprano Naomi O’Connell – encompassing many examples of the finest in Irish music and culture.
EMIR was named a CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title, 2014 and is the first ever comprehensive attempt to chart Irish musical life across recorded history. It covers all genres from traditional music to church music to popular music.
