The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart at The McKittrick Hotel

The McKittrick Hotel, home of the immersive theater spectacle Sleep No More, is pleased to present the New York premiere of The National Theatre of Scotland’s The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, a transporting, music-filled folk theater fable, created by writer David Greig and director Wils Wilson, with design by Georgia McGuinness, movement by Janice Parker and musical direction by Alasdair Macrae.  This limited holiday engagement begins previews on November 16, 2016 at The McKittrick Hotel (542 West 27th Street) with an official opening night set for Tuesday, December 13, 2016.  Tickets are on sale now through January 8, 2017.  For tickets and info, please visit http://strangeundoing.com/.

The McKittrick Hotel’s bar and music venue, The Heath, has been transformed into a high spirited Scottish Pub for the occasion, a unique and perfect setting forThe Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, featuring a full Scottish cast from the National Theatre of Scotland: Annie Grace, Melody Grove, Peter Hannah,Alasdair Macrae and Paul McCole.

The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart unfolds among and around its audience, weaving an ingenious, lyrical and enchanting story told with live music throughout its intimate and supernatural setting.

David Greig, co-creator of The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, is a playwright, screenwriter and director. His work for the National Theatre of Scotland also includes DunsinaneOne Day in Spring, Glasgow GirlsPeter Pan, The Bacchae, Futurology: A Global Review and Gobbo. His production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opened in the West End in 2013 and his play The Events premiered at the Traverse Theatre, in Edinburgh and toured internationally throughout 2014.

Wils Wilson, co-creator of The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, has recently directed Wind Resistance (Edinburgh International Festival), I Want My Hat Back, a musical show for families (National Theatre, London), Gastronauts (Royal Court), an edible performance exploring our complex relationship with food, Praxis Makes Perfect (National Theatre Wales) a theatre event/gig created with electro-pop duo Neon Neon, and Anon (WNO), a new opera by Errollyn Wallen.  Her work for the National Theatre of Scotland includes Gobbo, co-created with David Greig, Ignition and Home Shetland.

Composer Alasdair Macrae studied theatre arts at Langside College, Glasgow.  His previous acting work for the National Theatre of Scotland includes The Strange Undoing of PrudenciaHart, Calum’s RoadTall Tales for Small PeoplePeter PanPeeping at BoschGobbo and HOME Caithness. He was also a performer, musician and musical director for The James Plays in 2014.  He is currently touring in Dundee Rep’s The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil.  As a music director, sound designer and composer, his recent work includes The Bloody Great Border Ballad ProjectAnna Karenina, The Sleeping BeautyThe BookieThe Government InspectorLittle Red Riding Hood (Arches, Glasgow), The Beggar’s OperaSubway, Interiors and Tam O’Shanter.  He won the Critics’ Award for Theatre in Scotland for The Strange Undoing of Prudencia HartSubway and The Government Inspector, and has also won a Herald Angel Award and two Fringe First Awards.

Jonathan Hochwald, Arthur Karpati and Randy Weiner formed Emursive in 2010 to create immersive experiences in extraordinary places. Emursive’s first ever production is Sleep No More, Punchdrunk’s New York debut at The McKittrick Hotel, and the most monumental immersive installation ever presented in New York.
