Solas, the Gaelic word for “light”, is quite a suitable name for this band whose purpose is to shine a light on traditional Irish-American music by bringing modern influences into the genre. Composed of five musicians, Solas released their eleventh album earlier this year titled “Shamrock City”, in which you can hear lots of Irish, country, and folk influence. Taking their inspiration from the story of one of the musician’s family, Shamrock City seeks to pay a tribute to the life of Irish-immigrant miners during the Industrial Revolution in the beginning of the 20th century. They aim to spread the story through their music, in addition to visuals and tales incorporated into the live show, the songs in the album reveal the spirit, tenacity and humor, but also the discrimination, corruption and other adversities immigrants had to face.
