MLB Postseason 2020 Live Stream: Given that the series is in Minnesota, just looking at these numbers says the Twins should have a huge advantage. It’s a short series and those are prone to flukes, but it still looks like a pretty daunting task for the Astros. In this day and age, we’ve grown pretty accustomed to seeing the long ball go a, um, long way in determining who wins playoff games.

Major League Baseball’s postseason will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 29 with the American League side of the bracket. The Minnesota Twins won the AL Central with a good final week-plus of play and finished 36-24. It is their second-straight AL Central title. As the three seed in the AL, the Twins will now play a best-of-three at Target Field against the Houston Astros, who went a disappointing 29-31 in the regular season. Due to the format and a second-place finish in the AL West, the Astros get the six seed.
The Minnesota Twins had clinched a playoff spot in this short 2020 season already. However, the Chicago White Sox made this crazy season a little bit sweeter. Their 10-8 loss to the Chicago Cubs gave the Twins their second consecutive American League Central Division Championship in as many seasons. The last time back-to-back Central crowns were achieved was in 2009 and 2010.

What does this mean for the postseason? With Minnesota’s extra-inning loss to the Cincinnati Reds today, the Twins are the three seed in the A.L. side of the bracket. They will be set to face the sixth seed Houston Astros (29-31) at Target Field for a best-of-three win-or-go-home set starting on Tuesday. The game time and television channel is yet to be announced. When was the last time the Twins faced someone not the New York Yankees in the first round of the playoffs? In 2006 against the Oakland Athletics. Wild.

The club has pretty much their starting rotation for the Wild Card round: Kenta Maeda will go in game one. Jose Berrios will get the nod for game two. Michael Pineda is slated for game three, if it is necessary. The postseason roster, however, has not been finalized, but the 40-man pool has been announced. If the Twins move on to the Division Series, they’ll take on the winner of the White Sox-Athletics series that is taking place in Oakland. That next series will take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The first seed Tampa Bay Rays will take on the Toronto Blue Jays in St Petersburg while the Cleveland Spiders will play host to the Yankees at Progressive Field.

But hey, our Minnesota Twins are once again division champs, and they’ll hopefully be able to raise a ‘19 and ‘20 flag with fans in the stands at Target Field next year.Houston actually closed August in pretty good shape. They were 19-14 and only 2 1/2 games behind the A’s in the West. September, however, was not kind to the Astros.

A six-game losing streak early in the month set them behind and they never really recovered. After losing three straight games against the lowly Rangers to conclude the season, the Astros’ record in the final month of the regular season was 10-17. Look at this split for each team. The Astros went 20-8 at home and 9-23 on the road. The Twins went 24-7 at home and 12-17 on the road. This is as extreme as you’ll see anywhere in baseball from both teams.

Target Field is one of the more power-suppressing ballparks in the majors. The Twins do hit home runs, though not to the extreme that they did last season, but with only 69 homers, the Astros ranked close to the bottom third of the league.

Still, in looking at the personnel on both sides, it would be folly to think the series will be void of power. Maybe it’ll just come down to the more timely long ones, but these two teams aren’t getting through even two games without at least a couple big-time blasts. Keep an eye on Twins center fielder Byron Buxton, who hit 13 homers in 130 at-bats this season. The postseason field is set, and the American League slate is loaded for a best of three American League Wild Card Series with the Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins vs. Houston Astros and Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago White Sox representing the four matchups.

The bullpens will decide this. Both teams rely on hard throwers as the strength of the respective staffs, but few managers plan and execute a game plan like Tampa’s Kevin Cash. These teams know each other extremely well. In a (very) short series, the Rays won’t mess around in a quest to make 2020 special. Meanwhile, Toronto (without a home all year) likely will have “happy to be there” syndrome in their first playoff berth as a young, rising team. The Yankees were just 11-18 away from home in 2020. I don’t know how much of that is due to randomness in a 60-game season or what percentage goes to how this roster is built, but it’s impossible to ignore.

All three of these games will be in Cleveland, and it’s just hard for me to pick against the better manager, better ace and home field. The 2020 Yankees finish as what they were most of the year: disappointing.Dusty Baker’s pitching decisions will loom large. The veteran Astros manager can keep a steady hand during the regular season, but has made a career out of struggling in October.

Other than Zack Greinke, there are few Baker can trust on his staff. How many poor decisions will lead to Twins runs, There’s some Astros playoff muscle memory here to capture a game, but Houston is only here because of this year’s ridiculous format. The A’s aren’t the same team without the injured Matt Chapman, and this is a tough draw. Chicago fell to third in the AL Central, but drew a team it can take down in a short series. Something tells me we’ll all be talking about rookie Nick Madrigal this October.
