Bayern Munich vs Dortmund Live Stream: Most Supercups are not in fact super. Perhaps it is football’s inflated opinion of itself that it thinks slapping the word super at the start of a competition’s name will indeed make it so, but the reality is quite different.Watching the defending league champions play against the cup winners is another chance for the DFL (German Football League) to show off its top two teams and is a traditional way to open the season.

With Bayern’s dominance so great that Borussia Dortmund’s presence in this competition is often out of default because Bayern are both league and cup winners, there is also the familiar issue of competition. Perhaps this competition serves no other purpose but giving teams yet another chance to try and beat Bayern. While there is no doubt who the best team in Germany is and looks set to remain for some time, the Supercup does offer one purpose, particularly when the fixture matches Dortmund up against Bayern.

In the summer of 2012, Bayern beat Dortmund 2-1. After Dortmund had won back-to-back titles, Bayern needed proof that they could overcome a team that had become a problem. The win must have helped banish some demons because Bayern went on to seal the treble that season.

This time, Bayern are coming off a treble but go into the game having suffered a surprisingly comprehensive defeat by Hoffenheim.Dortmund also lost last weekend, less as a result of tiredness and more due to an uninspired performance in Augsburg that saw them fail to use the majority of possession.

With both sides keen to bounce back from defeat, an exciting game is very much a possibility. Perhaps the main takeaway from the 2020 Supercup though, will be about the very existence and purpose of the fixture rather than the outcome of its latest edition.Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will resume hostilities in Der Klasiker on Wednesday when they battle for the 2020 German Super Cup title.

The Bavarians are here by virtue of their double-winning campaign last season, while Dortmund are contesting as league runners-up.Bayern Munich saw their 32-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end when they fell to a shock 4-1 defeat to Hoffenheim on Saturday and this loss also halted their 15-match winning run in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund were also on the losing side last weekend, with goals from Felix Uduokhai and Daniel Caligiiuri giving Augsburg a 2-0 home win over Lucien Favre’s side.Der Klasiker is the biggest game in German football and this will be the 127th meeting between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.Die Rotten hold the advantage with 60 wins and 239 goals scored, while BVB triumphed on 33 occasions, scoring 150 goals. A total of 33 matches ended in a stalemate.

The most recent meeting between the sides came in May, on matchday 29 of last season and a first-half beauty by Joshua Kimmich settled the contest in favour of the Bavarians.Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will face an acid test on Wednesday, as they lock horns in the final of the DFL Supercup.

Bayern suffered only their third defeat under Hansi Flick, in the recent game against Hoffenheim, as they slumped to a 4-1 loss. It was a disastrous result for the Bavarians, especially given the fact they could have easily taken advantage of Borussia Dortmund dropping all three points against FC Augsburg on Saturday.

Nevertheless, Flick, who was been exceptional as the Bayern Munich boss after delivering a treble, will be eyeing more silverware when they face Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. The Black and Yellows, however, are stronger than they have ever been over the past half-a-decade or so as they boast a stupendous amount of depth in their reserves. Although the defeat to Augsburg was disappointing, the club certainly has what it takes to get the better of Bayern Munich and win the Supercup this midweek.

Dortmund haven’t exactly fared well against their competitive rivals in recent memory, however, notably conceding a double in the league last season. In fact. their last victory against the Bavarians came in the Supercup last season, so it will be interesting to see whether or not they can replicate that performance on Wednesday.Hansi Flick has a lot of problems heading into this game, particularly due to a lack of depth in his squad. He even had to bench Robert Lewandowski to keep him fresh for this clash while other attackers, including new signing Leroy Sane, have featured in every game of this new season, although Sane picked up a slight knock in the last match.

The Bayern Munich coach has no choice but to persist with the creative duo of Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry while Sane is set to be replaced by Kingsley Coman. In midfield, Leon Goretzka did not start against Hoffenheim and is expected to make his way back into the starting lineup. He could replace Corentin Tolisso in the double pivot, where he will be partnered by the ever-present figure of Joshua Kimmich. It is defence that could be tricky for Flick, however.

Benjamin Pavard and Manuel Neuer are guaranteed to retain their places in the starting lineup. However, Bayern have to choose between David Alaba and Jerome Boateng in the central defensive slot, while the left-back area also remains an open discussion, with both Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies competing for a place. The youngster has started all of BVB’s games so far this season in all competitions and has done a great job as well. However, we might see Favre switching to Thomas Delaney to add that extra bit of physicality and robustness in midfield. The Dane could form the double pivot alongside the ever-present figure of Axel Witsel.

Elsewhere, Thomas Meunier and Raphael Guerreiro are guaranteed starters in the wing-back slots as Dortmund do not have any other alternatives, especially with the likes of Thorgan Hazard, Nico Schulz and Marcel Schmelzer all sidelined.

Finally, in attack, we may finally see Marco Reus returning to the Dortmund starting lineup for the first time in quite a while. He is expected to replace Giovanni Reyna, with Jadon Sancho assumed to be a guaranteed starter. These two will look to support Erling Haaland, in the number nine role.
