[Live-Stream] Cardinals vs 49ers Free NFL Football 2020

September 13, 2020

The Arizona Cardinals vs. San Francisco 49ers game Sunday could be put on hold because of a reason other than COVID-19.

The air quality in Santa Clara, where the 49ers play at Levi’s Stadium, could potentially cause the game, which is scheduled to kick off at 1:25 p.m., to be postponed.

Wildfires have resulted in poor air quality in northern California.

Arizona Cardinals’ GM Steve Keim addressed the situation on the radio Friday morning, saying the team is monitoring the situation.

“I had talks with the NFL this morning and I’ve also talked with (49ers GM) John Lynch at length just to get a pulse out there,” Keim said on Arizona Sports’ 98.7 FM’s Doug & Wolf Show. “It’s a lot of moving parts to it.”

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the topic in a call with Arizona media earlier this week.

“It looks a little worse where we’re at right now than actually what it is, but I know it’s really bad in some other places,” he said. “It all depends on how the wind’s blowing. The sky looks really bad where we’re at, but the air quality (index) is under 100, which is a lot better than what it has been on some of these days when it hasn’t looked that bad. We’re good right now as far as practices and everything, but once it gets to 200, there’s not an option for anything. We’re not allowed to be outside during that, and we’re not allowed to play football whether that’s practicing or a game on Sunday. It’s just how the wind goes.”

Cards Wire’s Jess Root suggested that the NFL could move the game to the Cardinals’ stadium in Arizona as a possible solution.

The Cardinals could then play their Week 16 game against the 49ers in Santa Clara, instead of Glendale, as currently scheduled, if the NFL decided to go that route.

The air quality index reading (AQI) on Friday morning in Santa Clara was in the “unhealthy” range.

The NFL does not permit games or practices to be played if the reading is 200 or higher.
