The Frogs started the campaign in dismal fashion, losing four of their opening five games, but there were signs of recovery in autumn and now they are looking to ask questions of the European places having recently taken down both Atleti and Real Madrid in La Liga.

Athletic Bilbao, likewise, enter this contest in a bit of form. Recently-appointed Marcelino has overseen three unbeaten games in La Liga, their best return this season, and he will be hoping to maintain the club’s strong recent record at Levante, having only lost once in their last six league visits to the Ciutat de Valencia.

Jose Campana remains a long-term absentee for the hosts and is not expected back until early April. Elsewhere Gonzalo Melero and Sergio Postigo are struggling with separate muscle issues, while Nemanja Radoja and Enis Bardhi are also doubtful. For the visitors, Mikel Balenziaga is the only major concern.
Levante: The Frogs had already got the job done against Atleti by the time Jorge de Frutos executed a coup de grace in the 95th minute, but that certainly does not detract from the magnitude of the late finish, which put the gloss on a superb 2-0 display in the capital. The 24-year-old has not garnered attention for his scoring efforts this season, with that being only his third strike of the campaign, but rather his creative exploits, with the right winger currently Levante’s top assist provider (seven) and chief creator (22 chances fashioned). If Paco Lopez is to mastermind another big performance, then he will need to ensure De Frutos continues to play at maximum velocity.

Athletic Bilbao: Alex Berenguer is set to make his 50th appearance in La Liga on Friday, and the versatile midfielder enters, what will likely to be a half century, as his side’s top goalscorer. Having emerged from the Osasuna academy, with whom he helped seal promotion from the Segunda Division in 2017, Berenguer sought pastures new and tested his game in Serie A with Torino before returning to Spain in October. Since uprooting from Turin and relocating to the San Mames, Berenguer has been indispensable to Bilbao, and has recently scored three goals in his last two La Liga games (a brace against Cadiz and a goal against Villarreal). Those strikes took his total tally up to six which, combined with his two assists, places him second only to Inaki Williams (five goals, four assists) as the player with the most direct contributions this term for the visitors.
