On April 11 at Irish Arts Center, widely published and internationally celebrated poet Greg Delanty will read from his acclaimed new collection Selected Delanty, and will be joined in conversation by novelist Colum McCann (Let the Great World Spin, TransAtlantic). Delanty’s words evoke his transatlantic experiences living in the U.S. and in Ireland, and speak with vitality of the “simultaneous going and comings of life” (Selected Delanty). As the Sunday Times writes, “Delanty’s poems are a subtle combination of political activism and private contemplation…[from] the mind of a man who seems most at ease with the simple routines of life…but who is distinctly uneasy when his thoughts turn to the world at large.” Often described as a poet who is re-making language, Delanty’s vast collections of poems and wide regard establish him as one of the leading poets writing today. McCann, who will speak with Delanty following his reading, has similarly spent a large part of his writing career in the United States, having moved to the States in 1986 in search of “a true democracy of voices,” as he tells the New York Times. His versatile and electric prose demonstrates a profound understanding of history and society on both sides of the Atlantic.
This event will take place on April 11 at 7:30pm. Tickets ($12 general / $10 members) are available on irishartscenter.org.
