A fiddle workshop with local Irish music session leader Tony Horswill. This introductory class is designed with Adults and Young Adults in mind, current violin students looking to develop another aspect of their musical life. Participation is $25 and attendance (observer) is $10.
The class will cover learning a tune by ear, appreciation of tune (dance) forms, traditional tune structures, ornamentation basics, and playing in groups. There will be a short performance at the beginning and end of the class.
The prime focus for this first workshop is going to be on existing violinists/fiddlers, but I have structured the class so that complete beginners can be “observers” and so also be able to participate. An example would be singing (or really vocalizing, no singing skills required!) to learn the structure and phrasing of a tune – and hey, to have some fun! Another aspect will be playing with a steady rhythm and playing in groups (like sessions, for instance).

This is the first in a series of group classes through the year, catering to a wider range of student ages and experiences, and incorporating different traditional styles. Individual classes are also available.
