An event every week that begins at 1:30 pm on [day], repeating indefinitely
with Fishamble’s Artistic Director Jim Culleton, featuring writer and performer Pat Kinevane
Saturday, October 17 | 1:30 pm-5 pm
As seen in Underneath
No previous acting or directing experience necessary—just an interest in theatre and/or the creative process. Participants will be expected to take part as actors in the workshop.
Over the course of a half day, artistic director of Fishamble: The New Play Company Jim Culleton will explore the role of the director, focusing on new plays. Through a mixture of theatre exercises, discussion and text analysis, Culleton will look at how the director works with actors and playwrights to create a piece of theatre which engages as powerfully as possible with an audience. The main play explored will be Underneath by Pat Kinevane, who will join the masterclass for a discussion about writing and performing the play.
Jim Culleton is artistic director of Fishamble: The New Play Company for which he has directed award winning productions that have toured throughout Ireland, UK, US, Canada, Australia and 12 European countries. He has directed Pat Kinevane’s three plays Underneath, Silent and Forgotten, all of which have had their US premiere at Irish Arts Center, in association with Georganne Aldrich Heller. He is Adjunct Lecturer at Trinity College Dublin, and has taught at NYU, Notre Dame, NUIM/GSA, the Lir and UCD.
