The Broncos will take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:20 p.m. MT.

MATCHUP
As the Broncos head into this prime-time matchup, they’ll do so with Brett Rypien making his first start at quarterback. The second-year quarterback got his first game action on Sunday against Tampa Bay, and he moved the ball quickly on the team’s final drive. He completed eight of his nine passes for 53 yards, but his final pass on fourth down was intercepted. Against New York’s defense, which features 2019 third-overall pick DL Quinnen Williams, Denver’s offensive line will have to hold up better than they have over the previous two weeks to give Rypien time to throw as receivers work to get open.

On the other side of the ball, the Jets have a pair of speedy receivers in Jamison Crowder and Braxton Berrios, and they have a promising young QB in Sam Darnold, the 2018 third-overall pick. Darnold has thrown four interceptions already, so defensively, look for savvy veterans Kareem Jackson and Justin Simmons to try to get their mitts on some of his passes. At 37 years old, iron-man running back Frank Gore is the team’s leading rusher after Le’Veon Bell was placed on injured reserve earlier this season. Paving the way for Gore on the left side will be 2020 11th-overall pick Mekhi Becton, who is an imposing figure at 6-foot-7 and 363 pounds.

INJURY UPDATE
The Broncos lost two more starters for the season, as defensive lineman Jurrell Casey and right tackle Elijah Wilkinson suffered serious bicep and leg injuries, respectively, on Sunday. Drew Lock is still out as he recovers from a shoulder injury he suffered in Week 2, but Phillip Lindsay could make his return to the field on Thursday. Head Coach Vic Fangio said Lindsay is “trending in the right direction” as he continues to heal from a Week 1 toe injury.

New York, meanwhile, might get WR Jamison Crowder back from a hamstring injury after he missed the last two weeks. Like the Broncos, the Jets only estimated practice statuses for the short week, but WR Breshad Perriman and LB Jordan Willis both were listed as DNP (did not practice). Becton was another notable addition, as he was lsited as a limited participant in practice on both Monday and Tuesday.
