Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP) Adds New Programming to 2020 Season

March 7, 2020 - April 11, 2020

Associated Chamber Music Players (ACMP)’s 2020 season continues with the brand-new Animato! mini-coaching chamber music video series, their annual Worldwide Play-in Weekend on March 7-8, and the third annual Livestream Masterclass on April 11. ACMP has commissioned award-winning composer Paul Moravec to compose a new piece for adult amateur players, entitled “Omne Trium Perfectum” (everything that comes in threes is perfect). This commission marks the first step in ACMP’s initiatives to make contemporary chamber music more accessible to non-professional musicians.Composed with adult amateur players in mind, Morovec has comped a trio for violin, cello and piano. A second version for B flat clarinet, cello and piano is also available. Both versions can be purchased from the Subito Music Corporation catalog in March 2020, www.subitomusic.com. A limited number of copies are available free for ACMP members.

“ACMP’s 2020 season introduces new programs that will deeply enrich the experiences of chamber music players wherever they are,” said Jennifer Clarke, Executive Director, ACMP. “Collaborations with professional ensembles to provide video and livestream coaching, and our new commitment to making chamber music by living composers more available are refreshing additions.”

Chamber Music Animato! Mini Coaching Video Series

The Animato! ACMP mini-coaching chamber music video series features six short videos packed with ensemble-playing tips and demos. The first video features musicians Toyin Spellman-Diaz from the award-winning wind quintet Imani Winds, explores Intonation. In the second Imani Winds video, Jeff Scott (French horn) demonstrates an ensemble communication exercise. The final Imani Winds video, with Mark Dover (clarinetist), shares improvisation techniques. Three videos with PUBLIQuartet for string quartet released from January through March 2020 demonstrate approaches and tips on pulse, meter, and rhythm; intonation and tone. Videos can be viewed at https://acmp.net/participate/chamber-music-animato-mini-coaching-video-series.

Livestream Masterclass 2020

On April 11, 2020 from 2:30PM – 4:30PM EST, ACMP will present its third annual Livestream Masterclass, a two-hour workshop accessible to all via livestream. The workshop will feature Jasper String Quartet, an ACMP adult amateur ensemble, and two student quartets. Chamber music players at all levels across the globe will gain access to the scores ahead of time and can participate online, individually or in groups, and submit questions and comments along the way. The program features classical and contemporary works – see repertoire below. The FREE masterclass is accessible from computers worldwide, and more information can be found here: https://acmp.net/livestreaminfo.

In this two-hour masterclass, Jasper String Quartet will conduct back-to-back sessions with three “learning” quartets live in Philadelphia, PA, at Temple University Music Preparatory Division, 1515 Market Street, #Room 222. A multi-camera crew will deliver every detail of the workshop in a close-up, real-time high-quality stream. Chamber music players wherever they are can participate in groups, ensembles, or individually on their computers and devices, gaining tips and insights into playing technique and interpretation on two chamber music works. Participants can engage with the session throughout the session via a live chat feed, connecting with the event and each other. Online participants experience the session as if they were in the room.

A limited number of spots are available for attendance at the live event. RSVP is required https://www.eventbrite.com/e/acmp-2020-livestream-masterclass-tickets-93000780839 (maximum 4 tickets per order).

About ACMP – Associated Chamber Music Players
For the past 72 years, ACMP has provided support and services to people who are passionate about playing chamber music. ACMP believes that chamber music playing provides a unique opportunity for cultural participation and engagement. By creating opportunities and resources for people to play music together in small ensembles, skills are sharpened, communities are enriched, connections are made and lives are changed.

Since the organization began, ACMP has helped chamber music players find one another to share and play music together through a variety of networking programs. More than 2,300 members come from every part of the world and share one interest: the love of making music with others. Most recent initiatives use technology to help players connect and provide access to online coaching.

The ACMP Foundation was founded in the 1990s and has contributed more than $4 million to foster the playing of chamber music for people of all ages and skill levels. Grants support chamber music workshops and programs for adult amateurs and children and focus on coaching fees and/or initiatives that reduce the registration cost for participants.
