AC Milan vs Bologna Free Streams: The Rossoblu’s best chance of securing a result comes from their ability to counter with speed and precision against a weakened Milan back line, and in that regard Barrow and Palacio must also be watched. If things go to plan for Milan though, it will be centre-backs Danilo and Tomiyasu who will have the hardest task for the away side, keeping out the creative threats of Rebic, Ibrahimovic and Calhanoglu.

The 2020/21 Serie A season got underway this weekend, with the final fixture of Matchday 1 set to be played on Monday night at San Siro, as AC Milan lock horns against Bologna. After a stuttering start to the 2019/20 campaign, Milan recovered well under Stefano Pioli and were the most in-form team post-lockdown, finishing sixth in the Serie A. The Rossoneri have been in good form heading into the new season, having won each of their four friendlies, before beating Shamrock Rovers 2-0 in the UEFA Europa League second round qualifiers.
Bologna, on the other hand, ended last season in twelfth place, two places below the finish they had achieved in 2018/19. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men won just one of their previous eight Serie A outings in the run-in last season. They will be hoping to arrest that dip and start the new season strongly when they travel to San Siro on Monday.
AC Milan thrashed Bologna in the corresponding fixture last season, with goals coming from Alexis Saelemaekers, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ismael Bennacer, Ante Rebic and Davide Calabria, while Takehiro Tomiyasu scored the only goal for the visitors. And ahead of their latest meeting on Monday, The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at both the teams.Milan will welcome Ante Rebic back into the squad for the game against Bologna after he missed the midweek Europa League encounter due to suspension. However, they will continue to be without Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Mussachio, Andrea Conti and Rafael Leao.
No major changes are likely to be made to the team that eked out a hard-fought win over Shamrock Rovers. Gianluigi Donnarumma ought to continue in goal, with new signing Ciprian Tatarusanu on the bench. The Rossoneri are expected to stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation, with the backline of Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez shielding Donnarumma.
Ismael Bennacer has grown into a key component of the team and ought to continue in the midfield double pivot. Partnering him will be Franck Kessie, who will look to provide the forward thrust from the centre. The playmaking duties will fall onto the shoulders of Hakan Calhanoglu, who scored in the win over Shamrock Rovers.
With Rebic available, he is expected to walk back into the side on the left flank. Alexis Saelemaekers, who failed to make much of an impression, should drop out, with Samu Castillejo continuing on the right wing. Zlatan Ibrahimovic ought to be the man leading the AC Milan attack on Monday night. The Rossoneri begun their campaign on Thursday night with a 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in the second qualifying round of the Europa League in Dublin, thanks to goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Pioli is expecting another tough test from Bologna as he stated in his pre-match press conference, while he will again battle a defensive crisis as Milan look to make it two wins from two to start the season.Milan were unable to call upon defenders Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio and Andrea Conti against Shamrock as all three continue to nurse injuries sustained towards the end of last season.
The trio will be out for Monday’s game too, as will Rafael Leao who has spent time in quarantine and has not yet trained with the group, but Ante Rebic will return from suspension.Rebic is expected to occupy the left wing spot with Alexis Saelemaekers dropping to the bench. Hakan Calhanoglu and Samu Castillejo complete the trio behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer in front of the defence.
It will be a back four again with Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez on the right and left respectively. The young Matteo Gabbia will partner Simon Kjaer at centre-back, just ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma.Last season was Mihajlovic’s first full campaign in charge of the club, after having replaced Filippo Inzaghi in January 2019, but they were unable to build on their 10th-placed finish in 2018-19 as they ended in 12th.
Back on 13 July Mihajlovic held a press conference following reports of a serious illness in which he announced that he was battling leukemia, but like the fighter he is he continued managing Bologna and eventually returned to the dug out.For the game against the Rossoneri, Mihajlovic will be looking to use the pace and technical quality of Riccardo Orsolini and Musa Barrow on the break, as well as the creative ability of Roberto Soriano.
The only selection issue for the ex-Milan boss is that Gary Medel is suspended, with former midfielder Andrea Poli in pole position to take his spot.Probable Bologna XI (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Danilo, Tomiyasu, Dijks; Dominguez, Poli; Orsolini, Soriano, Barrow; Palacio. This has been one of Milan’s more one-sided games in Serie A since the turn of the century, with the Rossoneri having prevailed in 15 out of the last 22 league games between the two sides dating back to 2008.
Bologna did win 1-0 against Milan at San Siro back in the 2015-16 season, but before that you would have to go back 12 years to find the last time the Rossoblu prevailed at the Meazza.Milan won both meetings in 2019-20, riding goals from Krzysztof Piatek, Theo Hernandez and Giacomo Bonaventura to emerge victorious 3-2 at the Renato Dall’Ara, while there were five different scorers in the 5-1 win towards the end of the season which you can watch below. The main threat for Bologna continues to be Riccardo Orsolini, and the Italy international proved that last season by scoring eight goals and adding six assists in 37 Serie A games.
Speaking of which, Calhanoglu is without a doubt the man in form for Pioli’s side at the moment, having continued his fantastic form from the end of last season with a goal and assist in Dublin. The 18-time Italian champions have been enduring a difficult few seasons, finishing outside Serie A’s top four in each of the last seven years. Since coming second to Juventus in 2012, they’ve fallen as low as 10th with last season’s campaign seeing them end in sixth, a familiar spot for the Milanese giants.
It’s been a quiet summer with Alexis Saelemaekers, Simon Kjær and Ante Rebić becoming permanent acquisitions following respective loan spells. Zlatan Ibrahimović also confirmed he’d be staying in Lombardy as the Rossoneri look to rekindle former glories.
As for Bologna, the expectation is another season playing in Serie A’s mid-table. The Felsinians ended 12th last time out, 19 points adrift of European qualification but, more importantly, 12 above the relegation zone. Siniša Mihajlović, who made headlines after being diagnosed with an acute form of leukaemia, would love nothing more than denying the club he once managed a victory.
