How It’s New York: Darrah Carr teaches at Hofstra and pulls local dancers in to her fusion company (and that blend of cultures is a defining trait of this city!)
How It’s Irish: the ERIN in the title refers to the company member’s grounding in Irish dance. Along with fusions in modern and swing, there will be traditional Irish step dance on the bill.
The company performs at Irish Arts Center this weekend from November 11-13. One of the pieces is a new dance choreographed by Seán Curran. Check out Darrah talking about the work (and hear some of the new piece!) in this week’s podcast!

Set to the rhythmically complex and hauntingly beautiful vocalizations of Sheila Chandra, Seán Curran’s highly anticipated work features virtuosic displays of percussive footwork by Darrah Carr Dance’s cast of champion Irish step dancers. Curran and Carr first worked together a decade ago when Carr assisted Curran on the choreography for the Tony Award winning Broadway production of “James Joyce’s’ The Dead.” In 2009, in honor of Darrah Carr Dance’s 10th Anniversary Season, Curran choreographed “On the Six” for the company – a whimsical fusion of swing dance rhythms and Irish dance steps.
