In conjunction with Reel Music Unlimited, Folk Project presents the Northern Irish band Craobh Rua (pronounced Crave Roo-Ah) on April 3, at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship.
A few years ago I was Special Concerts director at the Folk Project, in Morristown– I presented Liz Caroll and John Doyle, the Tannahill Weavers, Screaming Orphans, Mick Moloney and friends (including Athena Tergis, Robbie O’Connell, John Doyle), and Cherish the Ladies. Craobh Rua translates from Irish to Red Branch, and is a name well known in Celtic history from The Red Branch Knights of Ulster. Based in Belfast, this traditional Irish quartet is Brian Connolly (banjo, mandolin), Jim Rainey (guitar, vocals), Conor Caldwell (fiddle) and Aaron Hagan (uillean pipes, tin whistle). Their latest album is entitled IF IDA BEEN HERE, IDA BEEN THERE. Craobh Rua has performed at the Millennium Stage Live Internet Broadcast concert series from The Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. and the Smithsonian Concert Series, broadcast over Voice of America. The Band’s April tour is part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland’s year-long season of Irish arts in America in 2011.
